The photographer didn’t understand the late guitarist’s reaction to the cover because he liked being among women. Although it is well known that Jimi Hendrix didn’t like the new cover, Montgomery doesn’t think it was actually the case. Since they didn’t want it to be that open and clean, David King, the creative director, made the nude women photo darker and more gritty than the original. The task of taking a fresh shot to replace Linda McCartney’s was then given to David Montgomery. However, the record label in London declined to use the original image for the cover because they believed it wouldn’t be commercially successful. A young youngster who was both white and black and symbolized peace and love was captured by Linda. When asked how he came to be the photographer for that album cover, David Montgomery said that Linda McCartney had been asked to take the initial picture by Jimi Hendrix in New York.
